Ship carpentry workshop
Ship carpentry workshop
Built in 1993, this carpentry workshop stands in the museum courtyard. It was built to meet the need to maintain the boats in the museum’s collections. Adjoining the entrance to the maritime garden, its form and material are inspired by the traditional forms of this type of building. Over and above routine maintenance tasks, the workshop has also produced a replica of a traditional boat no longer in use today. Built in Tatihou between 1994 and 1996, L’Ami Pierre is a replica of an 1860 Barfleur “bisquine”. The shipwright opens the carpentry workshop to the public at regular intervals throughout the season.
