Tatihou, what is it, and where is it?

Tatihou Island is a 70-acre natural area that becomes a peninsula at low tide. It is part of the Cotentin Peninsula, located just opposite Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue harbour, in the Manche Département, on Normandy’s north coast. Assigned by the State to the Conservatoire du Littoral et des Espaces lacustres (French Coastal Protection Agency) in 1988, the County Council (which became the Manche Département-level Council in 2015) took over its management in 1990.

An amphibious boat that sails at high tide and is driven at low tide has been up and running since 1992. It takes visitors to the island either at low tide or at high tide. On the island, visitors will find a maritime museum, a fort with its Vauban Tower listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, gardens with local and exotic plants and a hotel & restaurant that welcomes individuals, school and business groups.
